kanYe West

Say whatever you want about him or his music, the man does wonderful things for the art world. I have always loved when music and art meet, which is why I am so obsessed with the Gorillaz and their cartoonist Jamie Hewlett.

Anywhoo, Murakami and Kanye work together constantly. Kanye's signature bear is a Murakami design.

Also his Good Morning video is a Murakami creation. The video section of his site has that video as well as his new Heartless video. Which is an animation inspired by Ralph Bakshi, another cartoonist/animator.

Also, Kanye's blog has some really cool art, design and other really interesting things.

The man knows his art, I subscribed to it!

Questions for Stephen Shore

Do you see any new artistic trends in photography that you find interesting. Do you think photography is moving in the right direction?

Do you have any advice for succeeding in the industry?

Shore Questions

What are one or two things that serve as constant inspiration for you?

Describe typical situations in which you cannot resist taking out your camera and taking an image?

In some of your earlier images, what do you think you were trying to capture/say?  And looking back, what story were you really telling?

When meeting and photographing a celebrity, what are some deciding factors in creating their stories?

Another "Pink" Monster Artist

Jenn introduced me to this artist and I'm excited to see that someone else is making pink monsters.  I'm not going as far as Kembra Pfahler, but she's pretty cool.

S.S.Q

1. Your work is often categorized as banal or deadpan, one of your well known images that exemplifies this common description is El Paso Street, El Paso, Texas, July 5, 1975. I wrote a paper about this image and had very specific ideas about what made it compelling and why you might have been drawn to the scene. So I was wondering what it was that drew you to this street and made you photograph this moment?

2. You were one of the first photographers to establish color photography as "fine art," what first made you decide to work in color?

Stop Motion.

I just found out recently that one of my favorite director's was in a band in the 80's. He would make some of the videos for the songs himself. If anyone else likes Michel Gondry here's some of his early work if any one's interested.

Some Goodies Pt 2-Questions for Stephen Shore

1. How did it feel at such a young age to have your photos acquired by the MoMa? Did this make you work any differently from that point on?

2. In an interview about your work I heard you mention that you always find the balance in each photograph you take. Besides finding the center of the image, how else do you go about this process?

86 days until graduation

100 days, 100 songs, 100 locations, 100 dances... 1 guy

Questions for Stephen Shore:

What do you envision photography to be in the next 10 years?

As someone who wants to have a career in the publication industry as a photo editor and later creative director, what would you recommend the first step be for an entry level position after graduation?

Steven Shore Question

I find it very odd that so many photographers in the same genera of '70s documentary like shooting Amarillo, Texas so much. My uncle lived there for 30 years and was a bus driver from Amarillo to Roswell, New Mexico. Maybe I don't see what is/was so interesting about the place today, but I want to know exactly why Steven Shore loved it so much. I really like the images on the 303 Gallery site, and incidentally the first image is of a church in Tucumcari, New Mexico which is the city my mom was born in (and my crazy grandmother made her middle name Cari after the town).

New Work

Guys, I have some new work for the show, comments please

Questions for Stephen Shore

1.Being someone who is both self taught and who works in a school as an instructor of photography, what in your experience are the benefits of each approach to learning photography?

2.As a professor, how do you incorporate both informal and formal ways of learning photography into your curriculum. Meaning, as someone who grew up learning photography without any formal setting, in your classes, how do you balance the school's requirements and demands and how you see photography as a self learning process.
