So, I'm doing a project on Historic House Museums in NYC, and decided to check out the Alice Austen House on SI. Alice Austen was a pretty amazing documentary-style photographer in the 1880s, she was not a professional, but she was simply fascinated by photography, and in her lifetime created about 8,000 glass plate images. The museum showcases some of her prized possessions, like her cameras, and some of her many images. It also uses a couple of the rooms as contemporary photography gallery space. It was really interesting and different, definitely worth checking out, if you have time to get to Staten Island. http://www.aliceausten.org/
